We created HausAngeles for 2 primary reasons:

 

  1. We were dissatisfied with the level of consumer education and professional/ethical conduct we saw practiced on the ground in real estate.
  2. We felt the time is right to challenge the traditional way of conducting business in real estate and to ‘raise the bar’ on real estate professional services. The fact is we are currently in the midst of the worst housing crisis since the Great Depression, and this crisis has at least partly been caused by inadequate consumer education and questionable ethics practiced by some during the ‘boom days’. If there was/is ever a time to challenge the traditional way of doing business, the time is now.


As a result of the above, our mission and philosophy is to:

1. Invest in client education
We invest in educating our clients on the real estate market and process, so they have the benefit of making their real estate purchase or sale decision with as much information as possible.

We start every client engagement with a consultation/interview which not only helps document, clarify and refine our client’s real estate objectives and focus, but also helps identify any knowledge gaps our clients would like us to help fill.

For first time home buyers we have developed an even more rigorous process, which leverages our relationships with a local non-profit which provides HUD certified first time home buyer seminars every month. We strongly recommend that each of our first time home buyer clients attend one of these seminars. Then, we build on what they learned in the seminar to fill any remaining gaps in their knowledge regarding buying or owning a home.


2. Adopt a professional services (vs. sales) approach
The co-founders of HausAngeles left successful careers in professional services industries to enter the real estate and housing business. One of our co-founders was previously a top rated management consultant with McKinsey, a global management consulting firm (www.mckinsey.com), and the other co-founder is a trained Architect who once ran the professional services division for a global technology company called Day Software (www.day.com).

We approach real estate as a professional services business rather than a sales business and incorporate this ethos and way of conducting business into everything interaction with our clients and/or with industry professionals.

Finally, just as we respect our clients and their time we request and expect our clients to do the same. As a result, we do not work with clients who are working with multiple realtors or clients who treat any member of our team disrespectfully.


3. Raise the bar on ethics in real estate: Too often, real estate professionals operate in an ethical ‘grey zone’, putting their own interests ahead of their clients. The fact is that real estate professionals owe their clients a fiduciary responsibility and we take this responsibility very seriously.

As a result we always put our clients’ interests ahead of our own regardless of what this means for us financially. This means telling clients not to move forward with a transaction if we believe ‘killing a deal’ is in their best interest.
